A comforting, nutritious, and wholesome meal — dal rice is a simple dish that captures the heart of Indian cuisine.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup toor dal
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp ghee or oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1 green chili (optional)
  • 1 tomato (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves (for garnish)
  • 1 cup basmati rice (cooked)

Instructions:

Cook the Dal: Rinse dal, add turmeric, salt, and 3 cups of water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles or until soft.

Prepare the Tempering: Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, garlic, and green chili. Sauté until fragrant. Add tomatoes and cook until soft.

Combine: Pour the tempering over the cooked dal, stir well, and simmer for 5 minutes.

Serve: Serve hot dal with steamed basmati rice, garnished with fresh coriander.
