Soft, melt-in-your-mouth dumplings soaked in a fragrant sugar syrup — Gulab Jamun is a classic Indian dessert perfect for every celebration!

Ingredients:

unticked1/4 cup all-purpose flour
unticked1 cup milk powder
unticked1/4 tsp baking soda
unticked2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
unticked3-4 tbsp milk (or as needed)
untickedOil or ghee for frying

For Sugar Syrup:

  • unticked1 cup sugar
  • unticked1 cup water
  • unticked4 cardamom pods (crushed)
  • untickedA few saffron strands (optional)
  • unticked1 tsp rose water (optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the Dough: In a bowl, mix milk powder, flour, and baking soda. Add ghee and gradually add milk to form a soft, smooth dough. Let it rest for 10 minutes.

Make the Syrup: Heat sugar and water in a pan until the sugar dissolves. Add cardamom, saffron, and rose water. Simmer for 5 minutes and set aside.

Shape & Fry: Roll the dough into small, smooth balls without cracks. Heat oil on low-medium flame and fry the balls until golden brown.

Soak & Serve: Remove the fried gulab jamuns, drain excess oil, and immediately add them to the warm sugar syrup. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes before serving.
